Real Or Fake: 2021 Official Writing Dates Changed
The examinations for the 2021 session is due to take place between May and June, according to the 2021 Official Writing Dates recently made public by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Pauline Nalova Lyonga on the 16th December 2020.
In the past, we have always tried so hard to discard fake news that keeps circulating; some of which go as far as tarnishing the name of the GCE Board.
Every document deemed official should have a verifiable source be it in writing or as a PDF file. This has been the most efficient way to pass information by Government officials.
This article tries to explain as brief as it can be to all candidates why they should consider the document named Minesec Calendar Jan.2021.pdf or Nouveau-Cal-Examen-1.pdf as fake.
It is no news in Cameroon that every official press release by the Minister of Secondary Education can be verified from their official website http://www.minesec.gov.cm/en/accueil/. You can always save yourself the perturbation and anxiety by visiting their website if you have any doubt.
On the 26th of October 2020, the GCE 2021 Registration was officially launched across the 10 regions of Cameroon followed by the publication of the June 2021 GCE Examination Revised Timetable (FORM G6) to the general public.
The Deadline for the GCE 2021 registration was set for the 15th of January, 2021 but due to numerous petitions from parents, teachers and students, a Ministerial Decree of 18th January, 2021 was made public extending the registration period to the 15th of February, 2021.
We received a PDF file, claiming to be an official press release from the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Pauline Nalova Lyonga. We carried out our investigation and the following assessments were realized:
After performing some reverse search on the PDF file, we found out that a company by the name Intelligentsia Corporation, currently located in CRADAT – YAOUNDE – CAMEROUN is responsible for this malicious act. Their claims are as follows:
- ■ BACC ESG 2021: Tuesday, June 08 to June 11, 2021
- ■ BEPC 2021: Tuesday, June 15 to Friday, June 18, 2021
- ■ ESG PROBATOIRE 2021: Monday, June 21 to Friday, June 25, 2021
Whatever their claim appears to be, they are in no way connected either directly or indirectly with the GCE Board and the MINESEC.
- This is just a modified scanned document. No press release was signed on the 5th of January, 2021.
- The header on this document doesn’t look like any officially signed press release.
- The GCE, Bepc, Probatoire, and BACC (writing and practical) dates.
- The decision identification number and date have no backing proof.
The dates inscribed on the June 2021 GCE Examination Revised Timetable (FORM G6) officially stated that the Start Date & End Date was due from Tuesday, June 29, 2021, to Saturday, July 07, 2021.
On the 16th of December 2020, an Official 2021 Calendar and Modalities for Registration Examinations was made public by the MINESEC which clearly stated follows:
It should therefore be noted that the first exams for the 2020/2021 school year will kickstart on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. The written tests for these exams will however be preceded by the practical tests in physical education and sports.
These changes are welcomed with mixed feelings. Some students have expressed their dissatisfaction on this pertinent matter meanwhile, others are welcoming the change with much gratitude. However, it should be noted that this change doesn’t affect only the exam organized by the GCE Board.
